Background of the Study

Workplace ethics is crucial in shaping the overall work environment and influencing employee satisfaction, especially in public sector organizations where transparency, fairness, and professionalism are vital. Ethical behaviors in the workplace promote trust, enhance collaboration, and lead to higher morale among employees (Sulaimon & Musa, 2023). Government ministries, including the Ministry of Works in Katsina State, play an essential role in delivering public services, managing projects, and ensuring infrastructure development. The employees in these ministries often work under strict guidelines and regulations that define ethical conduct and shape the organizational culture.

In Katsina State, the Ministry of Works faces unique challenges, including bureaucratic inefficiencies, underfunding, and staff dissatisfaction, which may stem from issues related to workplace ethics. Ethical behavior, or the lack thereof, can significantly affect employee job satisfaction and their commitment to organizational goals. Employees who perceive a work environment as unethical are less likely to feel motivated, which can negatively impact their productivity, the quality of services provided, and overall organizational success (Chinedu & Ogunleye, 2023). The study aims to examine the relationship between workplace ethics and employee job satisfaction within the Ministry of Works in Katsina State, evaluating how ethical practices contribute to employee engagement, satisfaction, and performance.
